The alarming number of confirmed cases of CoVID19 in the entire world increases our anxiety level. We ask God, “Lord, when will this end?” As followers of Christ, we are not exempt from having panic attacks. Fear has a paralyzing effect, and giving in to panic can weaken us. Here are 10 Bible verse to counter anxiety.

Psalm 46:1-3

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

The psalmist celebrates the Lord’s presence in Jerusalem and calls on the people to have peace because the Lord is with them. We should not fear because the Lord is present everywhere. We can seek protection and strength as live through the pandemic daily.

Mark 4:39-40

And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”

Most of Jesus’s disciples were fishermen, yet they still panicked during the storm. If Jesus can make the wind be still, He can eradicate the virus with a snap of a finger. But while everything seems to be uncontrollable, let us put our faith in the One who can control everything.

Psalm 34:4

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

King David knows that the Lord is his only security. We, too, should be confident to seek the Lord and ask for protection.

Philippians 4:6-7

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We can’t help but panic these days because of the CoVID19 pandemic. But the apostle Paul reminds us to counter our fear with prayer. It is not an instant solution to the virus, but prayer calms our minds and spirits knowing that God is in control.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

A simple reminder of what to do when fear abounds. Trust in the Lord. He alone can solve this pandemic.

Isaiah 41:10

fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

The more we draw near to God, the greater is our intimacy with Him. This intimacy builds trust. When he commands us not to be fearful, it is because He will be the one to conquer our fears. As he promises in the verse, He will strengthen and help us in this time of uncertainty.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

We have no control over what’s taking place in the world right now. We have no prompt and adequate solution to eradicate the virus. What we can control is our response. We follow the government protocols set, observe proper hygiene, and boost our immune system. The rest we leave all up to God. We trust his sovereign plan for all of us.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Are you having sleepless nights because of the pandemic? The Lord’s peace will cover you as you lie in bed if you trust Him.

Psalm 94:19

When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.

When doubt fills your heart, remember the promises of the Lord to you.

1 Peter 5:7

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Peter was a fisherman. He knows how to cast the net to catch fish. So he is asking us the same thing. We are to cast or throw away our anxieties to God because God cares for us. Not that He will solve all our problems, but He will carry it until He reveals His perfect will for us.

We are living in uncertain times. Even scientists and medical experts are clueless when this will all end. But As Christians, we know is that Jesus lives, and He knows what is going on. Nothing surprises Him. He sees the hearts of the people who are seeking Him for the first time or are coming back to Him. May these Bible verses help you counter anxiety. Please, continue to draw near to our Lord because He holds everything in His hands. Let us all pray that in His perfect time, this will all be over.
