Family Summer Workshops and Classes 2015

This post may be a little late but if you haven’t enrolled your kids in any of the summer offerings, check out some activities you and your kids can engage in while school is out.

Arts and Crafts

Craft MNL offers kids from 8 to 16 years old arts and crafts classes at Powerbooks Greenbelt. Some hands-on activities include Making your own Comic Books, Basic Watercolor, Polymer Clay Miniatures etc. The not so young (crafty or not) can also learn a new skill like Rubber Cut Printing, Gothic Italics Calligraphy (which I am so interested in) etc. Learn something new everyday!

Classes start on April 14, for the kids and April 16 for the adults. Check out CraftMNL and the Podium Summer CraftFest for more details.

Get updates on their site CraftMNL and on their Facebook page.

Creative Writing

If you have budding wordsmiths at home, take them along with their pens and notebook or should I say laptops, at Writer’s Block Philippines’ Writing workshop for Teens. They can improve their writing skills by learning writing techniques that will help them in their future essays or manuscripts. The one-day class will be on  April 23, Thursday from 1-5PM at the UView, Fully Booked, Bonifacio Global City.

They are also opening a writing workshop for Moms like me who want to take their writing to the next level. Join The Professional Writer-Mama Workshop on April 30, 2015. Thursday from 1-5 PM at O2 Space, Unit 330 Mile Long Building, Amorsolo Makati.

Get updates on their site Writer’s Block Philippines and on their Facebook page.

The Write Stuff

Literacy

Encourage your young child’s love for books and reading. The Learning Library has an extensive summer program for kids ages 3- to teens. There’s a class for your child’s specific need. They have enrichment classes for those who have difficulty in Filipino and for to boost their confidence in oral presentation, they have a writing and public speaking workshop for kids ages 8-12.

The first summer run started April 6 to May 4. While the second run will be on May 6 to June 1. Sign up in any of The Learning Library’s branches: Makati , New Manila, San Juan, Pasig, West Triangle

TLL SUMMER 2015 MAKATI

Visual Arts (for people in the South area)

I will always be plugging this haha! The team of Ted and Cecile Luna has been teaching arts to kids and adults for 29 years. They have a heart for teaching and enhancing your child’s talent in the arts. Summer classes are on-going but the studio is open year-round, so you and your child can enroll even after the summer 🙂 Contact Ted or Cecile Luna for schedule of classes at 8077624/8425200 or 0927-9856148.

Cooking/Baking

Have you seen the TV show MasterChef Junior? The kitchen skills and creativity of those kids are phenomenal! Makes me cringe at how well they prepare those dishes every week plus getting the approval of Gordon Ramsay!

Gone are the days when our Lolas and Aunties drive us out of the kitchen. Now, we encourage our kids to get their hands dirty and smelly too.

Kid’s Kitchen Adventure 2015 is open to kids 6-12 years old who will learn basic kitchen skills and food preparation that they will surely enjoy. Class start April 14-17, Tuesday to Friday from 9AM to 2PM. Fee is P 6,000 for entire course. Contact them at 8921185/8925011 loc 108 or visit The Maya Kitchen Culinary Center at 8F Liberty Building, 835 Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City.

Flavors of the World– A Teen Cooking and Baking Camp  is for 13-19 year old young boys and girls who will be on a 4-day journey around the different cuisines of the world. You will surely feast your eyes on their mouth-watering dishes. Class start on April 27 to 30, 9AM to 2PM. Fee is P7000. Contact The Maya Kitchen at 8921185/8925011 loc 108 or visit The Maya Kitchen Culinary Center at 8F Liberty Building, 835 Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City.

Mom/Dad while you’re waiting for the kids, check out cooking or baking classes for yourself too at The Maya Kitchen. The family that cooks together, eats together and stays together!

Sports

Time to move those bodies this summer. For years now, the Milo Best Summer Sports Clinic has been providing sports enrichment activities for kids. They now have 13 sports programs which include Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Chess, Football, Gymnastics, Karatedo, Ice Skating, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis and Volleyball. Their Sports Clinics are open not only in the NCR but also in certain areas in Luzon, Visayas, and MIndanao. Check their website for schedule and venues.

These are just some of the many workshops and classes offered to the kids this year. But kids are not the only ones who can enrich their summer days. 🙂 Parents too can dabble in a skill or two while the kids are on break from school. Remember, you’re not too young nor too old to learn something new everyday.

One thing I LOVE to do is encourage people. And I One thing I LOVE to do is encourage people. And I use words to do that either on social media, in my blog, or my book.

Not everyone will LOVE what I put out there, and that's okay. Because someone who needs those words of encouragement would LOVE them.

I got this key point towards the latter part of episode 68 of @simonsinek ‘s podcast called A Little Bit of Optimism. He was talking to Carla Hall, a chef, author, and motivational speaker.

Although they were talking about how they ‘fell’, the conversation headed in the direction of loving what you do.

Do check out that episode maybe it’ll hit you differently than me. Send me a DM and ill share the episode link with you 💕

There's another part of comparison that we uninten There's another part of comparison that we unintentionally do. It's looking at other people’s trials and comparing them with ours.

We all have burdens to carry. And in each burden, the Lord is either correcting or teaching us.

Each trial is personal. So who's to say someone’s troubles are more burdensome than the other?

Let's avoid saying, “Oh, I have bigger worries than you”. Because we don't see what the Lord is doing in the other person’s life.

Remember, God doesn't love us equally but uniquely. Even in the challenges we encounter, He has a unique purpose in all of them.

📖
“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.” James 1:2-4 The Message

My recent battle with emotions exposed an ugly truth—I operate on validation from other people. The praise and ‘good job’ became my fuel and when I don't get it, I feel unwanted and insignificant.

But God, in his graciousness, allowed me to discover it in the quiet moments. Going through that painful season is necessary to shake the drama off of my life and keep me sober.

He uses His Word to validate who I am and who He is. What a liberating feeling to finally have this awareness so I can press on joyfully.

Only God can use a most desperate season to bring about His holy purpose in our lives. What the devil meant for evil, God meant for good. Praise You, Lord!
